Do you know what a sailor is? If not, we offer you a trip to the Škvalas sailing club. Here you’ll have a fun workout with club members. After the workout, we will regain our strength with a hearty educational session at J. Basanavičius’ homestead! Later, we’ll explore the town of Marijampolė. It houses the oldest Lithuanian gymnasium, where the heralds of the Lithuanian nation’s revival, J. Basanavičius, V. Kudirka, P. Kraučiūnas, K. Grinius and others, studied. Getting to know the modernist city of the 1940s. We will see street art drawings born during the Malonny street art festival…
In the morning, we leave for Vilkaviškis. We will visit the Vilkaviškis Škvalas sailing club. Here we will have an active training session with sailors, we try and experience what the life of a sailor is like… After an interesting training session, we will have a snack and go to the birthplace of Jonas Basanavičius, one of the most famous public figures of the 19th century.
The homestead of a wealthy Suvalkija farmer, restored in the birthplace of Jonas Basanavičius, is presented, with its late 19th-early 20th-century traditional dwellings and outbuildings typical of the region. It is the only restored homestead of the signatory of the Act of February 16th. After a short introduction to the homestead, we will enjoy a lively and mouth melting education ‘Keptuvėj čirška, burnoj tirpsta…’
Do you want to know what a blendinys is made of or what a pancake represents? Or maybe you’d like to try razavai or pancakes with different dips? If yes, this education will be just for you. The guests will not only learn about the peculiarities of food preparation and the utensils or devices used by the peasants of Sūduva at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, but will also hear about the superstitions, traditions and folklore that accompanied food culture. We will definitely not go home hungry!
After a hearty education, we will take a walk through the Oak Grove of the National Revival. The Oak Grove of Lithuanian National Revival is one of the most beautiful civic initiatives inspired by the spirit of Sąjūdis.
Later, we will move to Marijampolė. We will familiarise ourselves with the oldest Lithuanian gymnasium, where the heralds of the Lithuanian nation’s revival, J. Basanavičius, V. Kudirka, P. Kraučiūnas, K. Grinius and others, studied. Getting to know the modernist city of the 1940s. We will see the street art paintings born during the Malonny street art festival… We will visit the Basilica of the Archangel Michael, where the Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis rests… Marijampolė is called the city of parks, so we will take a walk around Vytautas the Great and the Poetry Parks. We return home full of impressions.
