We would not be wrong to say that the coastal region and the historical lands of Lithuania Minor are among the places that have a magical attraction due to their nature and traditions. A weekend trip dedicated to this region, visiting Šilutė, the Lankupiai suspension bridge, Kintai and the Vydūnas Museum, as well as the unique seaside settlement of Dreverna, famous for its deep fishing traditions…
Day 1. You depart in the morning. You will travel to the Coastal region famous for its natural diversity and complex history. During the trip you will visit the legendary Rambynas Hill. Visiting Šilutė, we will have a guided tour “Secrets of Šilutė” with a local guide. These are unique rooms covered with glass and built into the pavement, recreating the life of the past in the historic houses of Šilutė in the late 19th and early 20th century…
Lunch at the restaurant. In Kintai, at the Vydūnas Museum*, you will have a guided tour around the old school and the children’s art classroom. During the education Vėtrungė* you will be introduced to the history and the origins of the coastal area weather vanes, the symbols and the meanings of their colours. Each participant receives a template of a weather vane magnet and all the necessary tools for colouring: paints, brushes. Take away a coloured weathervane magnet as a souvenir.
You will travel to Dreverna. Here you will visit the exhibition on the history and culture of the Coastal region, the personality of J. Gižas and his ship building craft, the history and traditions of fishing in the Curonian Lagoon, the lifestyle of fishermen.
You will go to Memel winery*. At the winery, you will meet the winemaker and learn his family history. During the guided tour, you will have the unique opportunity to see the winery and get a closer look at wine production. All the wines produced at the winery and their combinations with home-made aged cheese will be available for tasting. After the tasting, you may buy your favourite wine and souvenirs. We then arrive at an agritourism farmhouse for dinner*.
Day 2. Checking out of the homestead. You start your journey at 11 a.m. A short stop at the Vilhelmas Canal, one of the straightest in Lithuania. In Dreverna, you will be welcomed by the Žvejytės ensemble. You will dance in circles and learn the words of the Lithuanian dialect in the folklore presentation programme “Į žvejus eisiu“.
You will travel to the small ship port of Dreverna. At the Drevernos uostas restaurant you can enjoy fish soup and pike mince pies. From the lookout tower you will see the surroundings of Dreverna, the Nagliai Nature Reserve the way the giants used to look down on it…
After a walk in Dreverna, we will stop to buy some fresh smoked fish, how could we not bring home a treat?… On the way home, we will stop and walk the longest suspension bridge in Lithuania in Lankupiai. You return home in the evening filled with excitement.
